Who can forget those super-fly cops who battled crime in the 70s while zooming around in their Ford Grand Torino? There were a number of die-cast vehicles and race set toys released when this show was in it's prime, but Mego made the biggest splash with their 8" action figure line. There was also a Starsky and Hutch Detective Game that was a pretty big hit, although I dont cover board games here (yet).

Fleetwood Clicker Pistols and Target Game
With this line, Mego made yet another stab at marketing an action figure line based on a hit television show. These figures are great likenesses, but who would want to play with an action figure without a weapon? I guess the British were a bit wiser! Appearing in this line are two black action figures, Huggy Bear and Captain Dobey. They are notable only because Mego correctly a previous mistake of using "ape" bodies on the black Falcon action figure (saving money by using Planet of the Apes bodies cast with dark skin). For Huggy Bear and Dobey, they actually made smooth-handed black bodies for these figures. These figures have gone up in value since the release of the Starsky and Hutch movie in 2004, but expect them to fall back down as the market dies out.

Starsky Hutch Chopper Captain Dobey Huggy Bear
Who knows where they got the design for this figure. He is basically your generic back-alley homeless vagrant with bad taste in clothes. Pictured here is a version that came with "general ape boots" (used on Mego Planet of the Apes figures). Chopper has been spotted carded with 5 different types of footwear.
A great likeness. If only he came with a pull-string
voice box that said:
"One more mix up like that and I am taking your badges!"
Huggy also has a super-fresh denim hat not shown here. That nose can really suck up some white powder!
The Starsky and Hutch
Car
(with Twist-out Action)
Ok, this thing is fly. One bad ass machine. How many of us had this bad boy or dreamed of driving it and chasing the bad guys across Joyzee. This is actually a difficult piece to find and can be quite expensive.
Fleetwood Clicker Pistols and Target Game
Kids everywhere wanted to run around and shoot up the bad guys, so Fleetwood jumped on board and made clicker pistols and badge sets for Starsky and Hutch. They are pretty basic, with stickers on the guns, just in case you forget who you are playing. They also released a target set for dart guns which they did not even produce!
One of the lamest aspects of the Starsky and Hutch line released in the United States is that they had no weapons! However, Palitoy did not make this mistake for the action figures released in the U.K., as they marketed their figures with small black pistols. Note the leather vest on Hutch instead of the "fur" one on the US version.
