The Six Million Dollar Man Arm Lift Mechanism
This is one of the main reasons I started this page. I had been collecting toys for about ten years when someone mentioned to me how to operate the Six Million Dollar Man lifting arm mechanism. For years, I thought mine was broken and I searched and searched for one that worked. But, thanks to Keene Silfer, who runs the 70s Toys Yahoo group, I now have run across twenty or so Bionic Men and they all work. Go figure.
Basically, you just turn his head to the right and then push the button on his back. Like magic, the arm will now lift. If the head is centered, it wont. Tricky, tricky, tricky. Reading the instructions would have solved this one, but if you dont have a set of instructions, now you know the secret!
Thanks to lawyers (and the poor kid from Atlanta who choked on a missile) the second edition Mattel Battlestar Galactica vehicles are non-firing versions. These are almost considered worthless by toy collectors and can be purchased very cheap. In addition, first issue vehicles without missiles are also common - it's those bloody missiles that are so expensive!
Well, you can make use of those late issue non-firing vehicles by taking them apart and recovering the missiles. The missiles are the exact same, Mattel changed the mold and removed the spring so they cant be removed (without a screwdriver). So, buy up a few cheap non-firing vipers and raiders and POOF - you have ammo for your launching toys.
